Calico jacks Inn and Ferry Service

Calico Jacks Inn & Marina, Inc. has been running a ferry service to Cape Lookout Lighthouse and Shackleford banks since 1990. Calico Jack's Ferry runs seven days a week, weather permitting, starting at 8:00 am until 5:00 pm. Calico Jack's Ferry is located at the end of Harkers Island which makes it the closest ferry to Cape Lookout National Seashore. The Ferry boat ride only takes eight to ten minutes long and runs on demand. The ferry departs with passengers at Cape Lookout Lighthouse or Shackleford Banks on the hour every hour until 5:00 pm. Before you leave the marina, you will let us know what time you want to be picked up on the island. Our ferry captains and boats are Coast Guard approved for 16 passengers. At this time we have the capability to run 74 passengers every 30 minutes.

We encourage the passengers to take a cooler with food and water, sunscreen, bug spray, film, etc. because, there is absolutely nothing to eat or drink on the islands. There are restroom facilities at Cape Lookout in the Inn Keepers Quarters and on the boardwalk going to the ocean side. There are no bathhouses on Cape Lookout or Shackleford Banks.

At Cape Lookout, visitors may choose to go camping, fishing, shell collecting or choose to take a beach tour on the 4x4 truck or visit the Inn Keepers Quarters. On Shackleford Banks you can visit the wild horses, go shell collecting or go camping or fishing. There are no restroom facilities, water, or shelter on Shackleford Banks.
